MBC opens mic for regional idols - The National

The Idol TV franchise that made stars of the US singers Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino is set for an Arabic version after a deal was signed with Dubai-based broadcaster MBC.

A pan-Arab Idol show will be made under a three-year agreement between MBC and the franchise owner FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME).

It is the latest spin-off of the popular Pop Idol format, in which unknown performers compete for a chance of musical stardom.

Local versions of the Idol format have been launched in 44 territories, including American Idol and versions for Australia, France and Russia.

Tim Riordan, the group TV director at MBC Group, said the Idol deal was signed a week ago, and the show "will hopefully air later this year", probably in the fourth quarter.

The name of the Arabic-language version has not yet been decided, Mr Riordan said.

Under the terms of the deal, MBC has also extended the rights for Arabs Got Talent, another FME franchise, for an additional two seasons. The value of the deal was not disclosed.

Episodes of Arabs Got Talent, which made its debut on MBC4 in January, attracted up to one third of the total Arab TV audiences. The final of the first season is broadcast live tonight from Beirut.

Franchised shows such as Idol have the potential to "revolutionise the viewership trends in the Pan-Arab region", Mr Riordan said.

Jamie Lynn, the regional senior vice president of distribution at FME, said the company was "thrilled to be working closely with MBC Group to introduce Idols to the Middle East".

"Arabs Got Talent has already proven very popular with MBC viewers and we are confident that the Idols format will also establish itself as a must-watch TV title for them."

Nick Grande, the managing director of Channel Sculptor, a television consultancy in Dubai, said the Idol format was likely to appeal to advertisers.

"It's a really well-known format internationally," Mr Grande said. "Any programme that had a track record of producing audiences is going to resonate with advertisers."

The deal marks the latest of several international TV formats to launch in the Middle East. Other international formats that have been made in Arabic include Who Wants to be a Millionaire, which was also broadcast by MBC.

Ziad Kebbi, the president of Sony Pictures Television Arabia, said Sony was in talks with Middle East broadcasters about launching more TV formats in the market.

"We're in discussions with all the channels," Mr Kebbi said. "The trend of the established channels looking to replicate international successes is going to continue."

He said Sony was pushing a show called Impossible?, which is billed as "the world's first ever magic-based game show".

What Do You Have in Common With American Idol Kelly Clarkson? Insomnia

It is always a comforting feeling to know that we are not alone when we suffer through something. But what is even more comforting to realize is that our favorite celebrities, who are constantly admired in the public eye, share the same problems that us regular folks have.

It would make sense that someone as famous as singer Kelly Clarkson would suffer from sleepless nights. People in the public eye have to constantly prepare for a concert or event, and are always concerned about their appearance and overall image. Is it any wonder that they get any sleep at all?

Kelly Clarkson rose to fame after winning the first season of American Idol in 2002. This was a far cry from her life as a waitress in Texas, so things changed drastically for her in a short amount of time. Since then, she travels from city to city, and is in and out of the studio working on her next hit song.

Between jetlag from touring, constantly finding time for creativity, and maintaining some semblance of a social life, Ms. Clarkson must be tired. We know that jetlag can provide severe setbacks in our sleeping patterns, and bouts of insomnia can ensue after a great amount of traveling. So, if someone is not only traveling across time zones within the country, but all over the world, this could prove to be quite tiresome. However, because Kelly is so busy, she does not always have the time or circumstances to take in a full night of sound sleep.

Kelly Clarkson recently admitted to an online British publication that she does in fact struggle often with short-term insomnia. She is known to write many of her own songs, and she feels that the nighttime always provides the best impetus for the creative process. Because she stays up so late completing a great chunk of her work, her sleeping habits might tend to be scattered.

If someone with Kelly Clarkson's fame and money can suffer from something like insomnia, it is no surprise that millions of people do as well. While we may not do as much traveling out of the country as she does, many of us feel that if we stay up later, we can get much more work accomplished. With our busy schedules and constant worries, it is no wonder that the average person only receives about five hours of good solid rest.

The next time you think it abnormal that you are up until all hours of the night, consider that Kelly Clarkson could be up at that very minute, working on her next multi-platinum-selling album.

But regardless if one or twenty celebrities suffer from the same type of sleeping disorders, it is important to work on rectifying the problem as soon as possible. As season 10 of American Idol winds down to its final eight contestants, the woman – and the voice – who helped make the singing competition a household name is showing off just how far she's come since her season 1 win nearly a decade ago.

Kelly Clarkson, who will take on the Idol stage for a performance next Thursday alongside Rihanna, rocked through a medley of her top hits on Wednesday's The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Clarkson, 28, kicked off the mash-up with her 2003 hit "Miss Independent" before launching into "Walk Away" and "Since U Been Gone."

And with a powerhouse performance that might give Idol hopefuls some inspiration, it's anyone's guess whether this season's top contenders, like Scotty McCreery and James Durbin, will enjoy success like Clarkson – or even Carrie Underwood. Clarkson, according to Nielsen SoundScan, is the highest-selling winner to the tune of 23 million albums and 36 million singles sold.

Season 10's contestants are a promising bunch but now that Pia Toscano, formerly considered an obvious frontrunner, is out of the mix, do any of the remaining contestants have what it takes to be the next Clarkson?

The Thrill is Gone For Me - Why I Do Not Watch American Idol Anymore

I remember I used to have to rush home every Tuesday and Wednesday from the office, just so that I could watch dreams being made or shattered on American Idol. I even watched the night that Simon Cowell had some not so nice things to say to now, Academy Award winner, Jennifer Hudson. I remember many of the seasons as if it were yesterday, but this season, I do not know any of the contestants names, I do not know the name of the newest judge added to the roster, and while I have been seeing hoopla on the Internet surrounding the final episodes, I just cannot bring myself to turn to American Idol this year.

Maybe I have lost faith in the set up of its system, maybe I do not believe that once a person has won, they will go on to do anything greater than most of the other contestants - with the exception of Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aiken, and the 'non-winner,' but truest winner of them all, Jennifer Hudson, who was not fed the pipe dream story of going on to this glamorous record deal upon winning. I really cannot put my fingers on when and where the Idol mechanics changed for me, but all that I know is, is that they changed.

If I had to speculate why I am harboring such pessimistic feelings about A.I., I would have to say that it is not fair how a person can become an American Idol statistic, after being praised and glorified so heavily on the show, then after their win, a few months later, you never hear about them at all. So, you mean to tell me that I spent a whole few months rushing home to see who is going to win week after week, until we get to the finale, then a winner is chosen, and that's that? Somehow, I feel cheated, I feel as if I could have spent my time doing something other than watching for a winner that will not be heavily promoted once their stint on A.I. is up. I guess I really stopped seeing the logic in it.

Well, no matter who wins this season, I hope that all of those that vied for the coveted winner's spot, realize that their dreams do not end there, and that they should persevere on to other things...their lives do not begin and end with American Idol, and apparently, neither does mine.

Image Is Everything in the Music Industry

Image is the perception of everyone else's reality....

Kelly Clarkson was the apple of America's eye during her run on American Idol. She was touring the world and was on everyone's television set from, VH1, MTV, and every other talk show that existed. She walked down the red carpet to collect a Grammy her first year as the best new artist and the image was she was a superstar. For all intensive purposes she was. The only deal is that in our minds a superstar equals big bucks and she was a broke joke.

Go ahead and look it up for yourself if you don't believe me. She was in legal battles with American Idol over the whole thing. They worked her to the bone and she didn't see a dime but in the end she finally started to reap the rewards she so deservingly earned.

It was so hard on her during that time in the beginning that she almost called it quits before she made it to the end of that long, dark,emotional, tunnel. My point is that our image of Kelly during those two and a half years was her living the glamorous life when in fact she was living out of mediocre motels, one suitcase with all her belongings and barely a penny to her name. She has been quoted many times in saying how she wondered if it was all worth it and was ready to quit and decided to do just that when AI decided to give their golden goose some of her own eggs she gave birth to.

American Idol had their image of Kelly projected through their show. She had the glitz and fashion producers made her look like a pop diva. She looked like a million bucks every time she stepped on stage and the world didn't know any other wise. Kelly's image was Gold! So the question is this. How do we learn from this as independent musicians and labels?

This is how.... We need to follow the advice my great Grandma told me, "Walk around like you have a million dollars in your pocket and no one will no the difference." The public buys into the image thing and here are a few things you need to know.

The power of television is everything to record companies. Without American Idol, VH1, MTV, movies and the televised award shows they would not have the superstars. The magic of TV has the power to create a larger than life image for anyone it seems. Disney understands this concept better than anyone. They have a television show for everyone of their artist and this is what makes their artist so successful. They out sale their adult counterparts but the BMI charts will not include them. I think they are a little embarrassed by the Disney kids.

Awhile back I realized playing the bars were not helping my image out. Although they were paying better than other gigs, being in a dingy bar on a floor with no stage, no lights and a poor P.A. system was making us look poor. So I looked into putting on my own show at nice theaters instead. Found out how much they required rent the facility made up tickets and pre sold the amount I needed to cover my cost. We had the big lights, nice sound and a sweet stage. We appeared larger than life to our fans and everyone thought we had arrived as artist.

I made sure we had two nice canon GL2 cameras to record the whole thing and made a pro looking DVD from the show. We put clips of the show on YouTube and it helped catapult us from the average weekend warrior to the talk of the town.

YouTube does not have the same power of the large networks but it does have some teeth. We now have to walk the walk and talk the talk to keep our image up. Everyone now thinks we are bonafide Rock Stars and keeping up the image is hard work. We try not to ever leave the house without looking like the image we have created. We have a motto now, "If we are comfortable something must be wrong."

We created a website that looks as slick as anyone from Sony Records and our own independent label and now we are a mystery to the public. As long as we don't let anyone know the truth we are using the same concept we learned from Kelly Clarkson we will continue to be superstars in the eyes of our fans.

We may not be millionaires yet but we are superstars!

Kelly Clarkson "Breakaway" Pop Music CD Review

Breakaway is the latest release from Pop Superstar Kelly Clarkson, and I can only think of one word to describe this CD... AWESOME!

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Kelly Clarkson is one of those musicians that has the ability to just bowl you over with her talent. The kind of artist it's really a treat to be able to listen to.

If you're a Kelly Clarkson fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don't even have to be a fan of Clarkson, or even Pop to know is good. It's just good music. Period.

While this entire CD is really very good some of my favorites are track 2, Since U Been Gone, track 4, Because Of You, and track 9, You Found Me.

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 7, Where Is Your Heart. Outstanding!

Kelly Clarkson & Music

Kelly Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 24th 1982 and is an American pop rock singer, songwriter and occasionally an actress. She made her debut under RCA records, after she won the highly publicized first season of the television series American idol. She was originally marketed as a pop musician with her debut thankful.

She is the third and youngest child of a first grade teacher and a former engineer. Her siblings include her brother Jason, and her sister Alyssa. When Clarkson was six years old, her parents split up after seventeen years of marriage. As a result, her brother went to live with her father, her sister went to live with an aunt, and Clarkson remained with her mother. She frequently moved around Texas while her mother managed several professionals in order to support the family. The family settled in Burleson, where Clarkson mother married her second husband, Jimmy Taylor.

While growing up, her family had a hard time financially and often argued about money. From this experience, Kelly Clarkson learned to be financially responsible and independent at an early age. Music became her refuge after the first divorce, but she didn't embrace it as her salvation until her teens.

She started singing after college and released her first and second albums but the second was the most successful. Kelly Clarkson moved to a more pop and rock oriented style of music. Her third album, entitled My December, was released on June 26, 2007. Clarkson has sold over 19 million albums worldwide She is the most successful idol, with eight of her singles becoming Top 10 hits on the billboard hot 100. She joined Vh1's list of 10 sexiest women of the new millennium at number 8. She also hit number 28 on Vh1's Top 30 Hottest Rock Front women.

Kelly Clarkson's new album will be "crazy pop-rock" - Musicrooms.net

The album's producer Rodney Jerkins has revealed some information on the American Idol's new album, which is due out in July.

Just as the current series of American Idol moves towards it’s end, news comes of the original American Idol Kelly Clarkson’s new album makes an appearance.

The singer isn’t due to release her latest offering until later in the year but her producer, Rodney Jerkins, has given fans an idea of what to expect from the star’s new material.

“A called “I Forgive You” that me and Lauren Christy did is just crazy pop-rock. The first person who  came to mind to sing it was Kelly Clarkson, so I sent it immediately and got a response that night.”

“She came out to record,” he continued. “The energy was great and I just finished mixing it. She nailed it.”

The album is expected to be released in July, although Jerkins felt it should have perhaps been put back to September.

“I think we can get back in the studio to do a couple more things,” he added.

Kelly Clarkson My December Pop Music CD Review

Talented Pop artist Kelly Clarkson has released her most recent CD on the RCA (USA) recording label, entitled My December.

Unfortunately, it's not everyday that I get a CD from an artist that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can't force myself to get through. Not at all the case with My December. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

My December has a pleasantly varied, mix of 13 tracks that are very well written songs by this clearly superb artist. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Clearly drawing from what I can only imagine are her own personal experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions like love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. They're all here.

If you're even mildly into Pop music you'll enjoy this CD. Overall My December is an a great release. I give it my double thumbs up. You will not be disappointed with one single track.

While this entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 1 - Never Again, track 5 - Don't Waste Your Time, and track 12 - Can I Have A Kiss.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 10 - How I Feel. This is a great track!

The First The American Idol Kelly Clarkson

There is a lot more to the story that meets the eye, at least, where Kelly Clarkson, the American Idol, is concerned. Her rise to the top of the charts was not an easy one and any struggling singer-wannabe can probably identify with the grit and determination this young pop singer has shown. Kelly Clarkson was born Kelly Brianne Clarkson April 24th 1982 in the small town, Burleson in Texas.

Despite her very obvious talent on stage, her first ambition as a child was to become a marine biologist but watching the show "Jaws" scared her off her career. With her dreams dashed, she was clearly open to suggestions and when a teacher in her school, Pauline Hughes, heard Kelly Clarkson's rich voice, she was encouraged to join the school choir. And from there, Kelly Clarkson is smitten with singing. Kelly Clarkson soon upgraded her singing portfolio when she was included in the Texas All-State Choir.

Even with a voice like hers, she still failed to sell herself to record labels and having no luck at home, the far-sighted Kelly Clarkson saved up enough money from odd jobs as a pharmacy assistant, telemarketer, waitress and assistants in a movie theatre and the zoo, she managed to send herself to California.

In the land of Movie Stars, she landed herself as an extra in the popular TV series "Sabrina" and found herself working with the famous songwriter, Gerry Goffin. Apart from these minor roles, a record deal was not forthcoming. With Mr. Goffin falling ill, her roommate moving out and her apartment burning down, Kelly Clarkson packed her stuff and headed on back home.

Although Kelly Clarkson found a STABLE job as a promoter for Red Bull to help pay the bills, she has not given up on her dream. And when a friend told her that there was going to be a singing contest where the public gets to vote on the winner, she gave it a shot. Kelly Clarkson didn't have high expectations for this contest; with the memory of her failure to get a record deal still fresh in her mind. PLUS she was going to be pitching against 10,000 other talented Americans.

But what a surprise it was for Kelly Clarkson when her rendition of Aretha Franklin's "Respect" floored the judges. And it was only at that point in time that she realized that she really DID want to win! Feeling revitalized and motivated again, her rendition of Franklin's "You make me feel like a natural woman" won even the praise of the most notorious American Idol judge, Simon Cowell.

Her first single, "A Moment Like This", was released October 2002 and it jumped straight from No. 52 to No. 1 on the Billboard starts, creating history! The jump was noticeably bigger than the jump that the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love". "Can't Buy Me Love" only jumped from No.27 to No.1. Kelly Clarkson is now known around the world as the first ever American Idol who has her own brand of down-to-earth charm and a sense of humor to match. People can relate to Kelly Clarkson because we have watched her rise from a 'nobody' to the 'somebody' that she is today.

We know it's hard to tell when it comes to the staying power of pop stars but with Kelly Clarkson, we believe that she may be here to stay....

American Idol - Does Gender Play A Role?

Seems like every time I turn the radio on, Jordin Spark's Tattoo is playing. And the odd time I flip on the country music station? Carrie Underwood is asking Jesus to take the wheel or is belting out her tribute to the all American girl. But when was the last time you heard a Ruben Studdart ditty? And Taylor Hicks, the winner of year 5 was dropped by his record label.

With this years American Idol contests weeks from wrapping up and only one mediocre female contender left (Syesga Mercado), I almost have to wonder, does it really matter who wins this year? Because, if history repeats itself, the last that we hear of them will be the big finale.

All of the female winners have gone on to have some major success. Even Fantasia, who may not have crack the pop charts, is a force to be reckoned with on Broadway and an R&B star. Jordin is fast becoming a pop star, even doing a duet with Chris Brown on her next single. Kelly Clarkson is gaining popular and critical acclaim with each new hit and Carrie Underwood can do no wrong.

I wonder why that is? I think that maybe, just maybe, it has something do with it being more acceptable for a female to win what is basically a popularity contest disguise as a singing competition. For the girls, winning is a ticket straight to stardom. For the guys? You'd be better off finishing second, like Clay Aitkin did in the second season. He might not have a huge recording career but he's the darling of Seusical. And really, isn't his voice more suited for Broadway. And let's not forget third place winner Chris Daughtry.

With one last year's top rock albums, his band Daughtry will most likely be around for years to come. What I'd like to see is one of the guys come to this realization and with three left, beg and plead with the voting public not to vote for them. Then maybe they'd have a chance at a career. Because otherwise? Look for this year's winner of American Idol in a sales bin close to you.

Kelly Clarkson, how we've missed you since you've been... gone! Well, not gone, but we NEED more of you in our lives. Not to be clingy or anything.

The original American Idol was on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" yesterday to sing a medley of her hits from Universal Orlando Resort. Kelly performed her classic "Since U Been Gone," the soaring "Walk Away" and even hearkened back to the days of "Miss Independent" (so underrated!). Kelly rocked out hard, reminding us that even if she's been in and out of the spotlight for a while now, we shouldn't forget about her. And how could we, with that match-in-the-gas-tank voice?

Kelly seems to only sound better and more powerful as she gets older (NOT that you're old, Kelly!) with every new song she releases. And if her performance on "Ellen" is any indication, she's done anything but let us down, only making us all the more excited for her next album, due out this September.

Kelly Clarkson to return to 'American Idol' with Jason Aldean

Kelly Clarkson, the first winner of "American Idol" and its most successful alum, is set to perform on the FOX singing contest series next week.

The pop star, who will turn 29 later this month, will perform "Don't You Wanna Stay" with country singer Jason Aldean on the show on Thursday, April 14, which will also feature a performance from pop and R & B singer Rihanna, FOX said in a statement.

The 2010 song by Clarkson and Aldean is currently high on the country music charts and is the most-played track from an "American Idol" alum. The two also performed together at the 2010 CMA Awards in November.

Clarkson has performed on "American Idol" numerous times since she won the show in 2002. After her win, she released four studio albums and toured all over the world. She recently sang a medley of her hits, including "Miss Independent" and "Since U Been Gone," at Universal Studios' CityWalk in Los Angeles for "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." (See video below)

Rihanna performed on "American Idol" last year. This will be Aldean's first appearance on the show.

On Thursday, April 7, rocker Iggy Pop and "American Idol" alum Constantine Maroulis performed on "American Idol" and No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani made a guest appearance.

But the rock stars were overshadowed by the biggest shocker of the current 10th season - the elimination of former frontrunner Pia Toscano. According to online polls, including those on OnTheRedCarpet.com, she was voted most likely to win the FOX singing contest series. The show is now down to eight finalists, who will await their fate next week. They are: Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin, Lauren Alaina, Casey Abrams, Scotty McCreery, Paul McDonald and Haley Reinhart.

The Rising Star That is Kelly Clarkson

My younger brother told me that he only wants one thing for Christmas. Well, one person to be exact. You see, he wants Kelly Clarkson, the first-year winner of the screamingly popular American Idol. My brother often tells me about the virtues of Kelly Clarkson and asked me to figure out a way to satisfy his one wish.

I have to admit that she has a lot of talent. My brother incessantly plays her songs and his favorites seem to be "Since U Been Gone" and "Before Your Love/A Moment Like This". She sings them with a moderately skilled range. However, she appeals to a great number of listeners in a semi-sexy semi-cutesy fashion. She also has a clarity and familiarity of song lyrics that even I can appreciate.

I think that my younger brother is really serious with his wish of having Kelly Clarkson as a friend. He just wants to hang out with her, drink coffee, go on hikes and other do similar activities with her. To be honest, I can see them as hitting it off quite well in this respect. This is because Kelly is the kind of person who seems active, engaged, dynamic, and willing to go on those mountain treks.

Since my brother belongs to one of those MP3 download clubs, I can't be cliché and give him Kelly Clarkson CDs. The next obvious thing that I can do is give him a Kelly Clarkson poster, or better, a life-sized Kelly Clarkson stand-up cardboard cutout.

I have also heard about stars who are accessible for such odd requests such as making a quick video greeting or phone message. However, Kelly will probably ignore my letters and requests because my brother doesn't have any debilitating illness or disturbing brain damage. My brother also told me that a one-time private concert won't do because he wants to hear her singing to him every day, while delighting in her laughs.

I also have obsessions of my own so I can understand my brother's obsession. However, his rejection of the gardening tools, Anne Rice books, and pounds of chocolate as inferior gifts, along with his adamancy about getting Kelly Clarkson here in all their stead is simply driving me crazy!

The singer will be guesting on the show next week.

She’s in the middle of her new album, but Kelly Clarkson has found time to return to where her career all began – the American Idol stage.

The world famous talent show winner will appear as a guest performer on the show next week, when the contestants will be slashed to the final eight. Clarkson recently appears on the Ellen Degeneres Show, performing a medley of her hits including Miss Independent and Since U Been Gone. It is thought she will be doing a similar performance on the Idol stage during the results show.

Clarkson recently announced that she had working on her fifth album via her Facebook page, and also told fans that although the album is finished, she cannot release it until September. I suppose a stint on Idol was meant to have coincided more with the original arrival date of the album, but when you’ve already sold 10.5 million albums worldwide, that is just a minor set back.

What American Idol Has to Do With The Latest Karaoke Craze

Karaoke has been popular for many years, but the increasingly enormous popularity of American Idol has sparked an even greater interest in karaoke and drawn countless new addicts to its folds. It's been six years since the phenomenon known as Idol tapped into the airwaves and started people talking about an addictive new concept in Reality TV. And this addiction has fueled the continued addiction of many closet singers who have now come out of the closet.

It's easy to imagine how the producers conjured up the premise. They probably said, "Let's revisit the old talent show gig. However, this time, each of the contestants will have a family, a history, a home town and a personality hook that takes the viewer one step further. Let's make the audience become invested every week by making it be about more than just who has the best voice." And let's make sure we show the best and the worst in the auditions-so more people can relate. It's pretty much how most karaoke clubs are anyway-the best with the worst!

And so it happened that we came to love the Kellys and Clays, the Daughtrys and Underwoods, and even the William Hungs! We loved them because they each had a real life story and a way in which they connected with their audience and dealt with the critiques of the judges. We didn't just love them-we fell in love with them-because we were the ones who voted and helped them realize their American Dream. And we lived vicariously for our unrealized dreams. It's probably why karaoke is so popular-so many of us have the rock star dream! Through American Idol, we all lived that dream.

When Kelly Clarkson became the first winner, the show achieved its own instant success. Kelly won over her competitor Justin Guarini, but the two were viewed as America's sweethearts even after the show ended and a really bad movie starring the two of them came and went. After that, Kelly emerged as a celebrated pop performer in her own right.

Season two ended with the closest contest in the show's history with Rubin Studdard and Clay Aiken going head to head. There are some who claim that faulty phone company tactics affected the voting and that Clay was robbed of his rightful crown.

Seasons three and four saw two young gals cinch the title-each with their own distinctive styles--Fantasia and Carrie. There couldn't be two more different vocalists on the planet, yet they both hold the same title-American Idol. And Carrie has become a huge country star winning every award possible.

Taylor Hicks was season five's winner and he became number one by borrowing a little bit of everything from days gone by. Elvis, soul, harmonica, groove, Joe Cocker and Vegas, won the hearts of the American voters. In the last season, Jordin Sparks won the crown with her youthful vigor and gospel powerhouse voice.

Looking at American Idol one can see how the show has evolved and been improved upon, yet that it had the makings of a winner from the start. The shelf life for such a program is usually four years at most. At the top of its game going into season seven, how long will it continue to entertain and excite America? For as long as we all harbor that rock star dream. Long live American Idol. Long live karaoke!

Kelly Clarkson Sings Her Hits on ‘Ellen’

Kelly Clarkson’s decline in popularity is proof-positive that emerging as the winning contestant on “American Idol” does not guarantee that one will go on to have a tremendously succesful recording career. She was fairly popular for a while there, but was quickly replaced by more talented and interesting pop stars like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.

(In this particular genre, the terms “talented” and “interesting” are relative.)

However, according to AOL Music, Clarkson did manage to remind the country that she exists when she performed on “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” yesterday, March 6.

With a fifth studio album on the way, Clarkson performed old hits like “Miss Independent” and “Since U Been Gone.” As big as those songs were when they were first released–it was impossible to walk through the mall without hearing one of them about a dozen times–a lot of us have forgotten about them by this point. But who says it’s too early for nostalgia?

We’re not exactly excited for any new work from Clarkson; she didn’t push any musical boundaries before and there is no reason to expect that she will in the future. While recent “Idol” contestants like Crystal Bowersox have forged unique musical identities of their own, acts like Clarkson give us more of the disposable pop that is clogging the airwaves.

Kelly, since you’ve been gone, well we can kind of breathe. Keep it that way, dear?

Kelly Clarkson's greatest hits medley on 'Ellen': 'Miss Independent' and more

Broadcasting from Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, Kelly Clarkson performed a medley of her greatest hits on Wednesday's "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." Looking a little overdressed for the Florida sunshine, Kelly started off with a new, bluesier arrangement of "Miss Independent."

She segued into a rock-edged version of "Walk Away," proving why she absolutely deserved to win the first season of "American Idol" ten years ago.

She also worked in her hit single "Since U Been Gone" as the audience jumped up and down with her. She hit some spectacular notes and gave the ending of the song a new twist -- "now that that loser is gone," she sang.

After performing, Kelly checked out the attractions. "We spent all day yesterday at Universal Studios in Orlando and had the time of our lives! Loved the rides, LOVED all the Harry Potter stuff (especially butterbeer:), loved being on the Ellen show, and our guides were fantastic! Seriously, can't wait to go back!" she posted on Facebook.

Prediction: 3 Top Country Love Songs of 2011

They say no one can accurately predict the future, but I thought I'd take my shot at immortality by predicting the top country love songs of 2011. Ok, maybe that's a little melodramatic, but here are my predictions just the same:

No. 3 - "Don't You Want to Stay" by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson

This duo teamed up at the 2010 CMA's to earn a standing ovation. This moving love song asks "Don't you wanna hold each other tight - don't you wanna fall asleep with me tonight?" You won't want to let the tender moment come to an end as Kelly sings "I don't want to just make love, I want to make love last."

No. 2 - "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" by Thompson Square

Husband and wife duo Kiefer and Shawna Thompson come together to tell the story of new love. Country fans and romantics alike will fall for this tale of two shy teens which is a cute and romantic example of the type of song a new artist needs to break through the envelope. A beautiful song and an eye-catching duo.

No. 1 - "Who are You When I'm Not Looking" by Blake Shelton

Blake hit the sweet spot with what is one of his sexiest love songs yet. "Who are You" looks at love from the other side, showing that deep desire to truly know and understand your partner and her most intimate secrets. Blake's honey-sweet voice and powerful vocals make this a sure-fire hit.
